“Florals? For Spring? Groundbreaking.” Ah yes, thank you, Miranda Priestly for keeping it real on the most enduring print for spring! Funny story…In my Gender and Communication class at UCLA this quarter, we are currently learning about how we “learn” our gender from an early age, including how to perform that gender. One of the ways that we do this is through non-verbal communication, which includes what we choose to wear. Believe it or not, the clothing you put on sends a huge message to others about how you want to be perceived. Are you ultra-feminine? Androgynous? Somewhere in between? One of the examples the professor used to illustrate this was one of my all-time favorite movies, The Devil Wears Prada. I mean, seriously, if you haven’t seen that movie yet, what are you doing?! (My fiance, arguably one of the manliest of dudes, even likes this flick.) I was a tad shocked to find that I was one of the only people in my class who had actually seen this movie….and when she used Pretty Woman to illustrate her point a couple minutes later, I was DEFINITELY the only person who raised their hand when she asked who had seen that movie…ah, the joys of being an old lady undergrad!
Despite Ms. Priestly’s disdain for spring florals, I can’t get enough of them every single year. There is literally nothing that could scream SPRING more than a good floral print, and I have them aplenty. A couple things I will say about this look: First of all, this blouse is so bomb. It’s floral, its cold shoulder, and it’s so easy to wear with anything because of its neutral color scheme. In case you caught my
s so easy to wear with anything because of its neutral color scheme. In case you caught my haul video yesterday, you know how much I am obsessed with cold shoulders lately! Also, I am finally getting over my white-pants mental block. In another life, I was a waiter at the Cheesecake Factory, so it took me a couple years to get over the trauma of wearing white pants…basically white everything every single day. I am happy to report that I’ve made a full recovery from that, which is awesome because white pants for spring and summer are so clean and fun.
