If you’ve been following along here for any length of time, you already know that I have that Gucci taste on a Forever 21 budget. I’ve always been into designers, but I just can’t go out and shell out that kind of cash unless it is for a GOOD reason. Oh, I sometimes justify it, like the time I was in Paris and wanted to buy some Christian Louboutins because its the best deal I’d ever get…you can read all about that here, but what I am getting at here is the fact that most of the time, I have to be smart about my clothing purchases. That’s where my favorite affordable fashion site, Shein, comes into play. A lot of people are wary of this site and others like it, and I am here to tell you that it is an awesome resource for affordable fashion lovers. Read on for all my tips and tricks on how to shop this site!
The most important thing I can stress about shopping on Shein and other similar Asian based websites is realizing that their sizing is more often than not much smaller than US sizing. I am typically a size 6 or a medium, so as a general rule of thumb, I typically will order a large on Shein to ensure that it fits me. If a piece is particularly swingy or more oversized, I go ahead and take my normal size and that has also served me well. When in doubt, size up!
I don’t usually stop at guessing my size on these websites. The great thing is that they have measurements for each size, so one thing that is a must do when shopping on Shein is to check that out and measure yourself to get an accurate size. Doing this has not failed me yet as their measurements are pretty true to the description.
Some people are wary of Shein because they think the clothing will look super cheap when it gets to them. I appreciate this concern, because I definitely have orderd a couple things that looked awful when I received them. However, the vast majorty of the things I order from Shein look amazing for the price. One thing I do to make sure the piece looks good is to scroll down on the product page because Shein allows its customers to not only write reviews, but also to upload photos of themselves wearing the pieces. In fact, if you do this, they will give you Style Points that you can put toward a future order! I love checking out the photos of “real people” wearing the garmets because it gives you an idea of what it will look like on you based on how it looks on other body types.
One of my favorite things to grab from Shein is accessories! Asian fashion websites often have the best designer dupes. This Chloe Drew bag dupe is one of my current favorites, because the construction is really sturdy, and the hardware has a good weight to it. It really doesn’t look like a dupe at all! If you are an affordable fashion maven like myself, it is all about scoring an awesome dupe so that you can get in on the trend without spending so much money.
