First of all…HAPPY 2018 YALL! I can’t tell you how happy I am that this year is finally here, because it is a HUGE one for me. I’m turning 30, graduating college, and getting married, for starters. And that’s just the stuff on the schedule…who really knows what else this year holds? But before all the crazy of this new year gets underway, I wanted to take a minute and talk about New Years resolution and why I hate them
Ever since I was old enough to understand what New Years resolutions meant, I was all about them. I’d write down all the things I wanted to change about myself every year and promise myself I’d make these changes happen. But over the years, I’ve started to notice that the usual suspects keep popping up…lose weight, get out of the job you hate, make more money, travel more….I mean seriously, it seemed like none of my New Years resolutions were sticking at all. When I try to think of why I think this is, I think its the nature of the actual act of making resolutions that sets you up to fail. Why should change just be relegated to the first of the year? In my opinion, if you truly want to grow as a person, you should always be working on yourself and setting goals to meet…not just on January 1st, but all year as you realize the ways in which you want to improve.
With this in mind, here’s my challenge to you: instead of thinking of a couple grand New Years resolutions, take a second and reflect on the past year. When I think back on the past year and how much I’ve grown as a person, I am so freaking grateful. It helps me realize that yes, while I do have so much to do, I’ve actually come so far and that is always encouraging and helps me not feel the discouragement that can sometimes be so overwhelming when you’re focusing so much on this long list of ways you need to improve. Only after you’ve appreciated all of last years accomplishments should you move on and think about where you’d like to be next New Year’s. After you have that image in your mind, set some small attainable goals that you can focus on for the first couple months, and and keep setting up small goals to hit throughout the year to make your bigger goals seem more attainable. This is one of the reasons why those New Years resolutions don’t stick; you are only seeing the big picture you want when in reality, you need to take small steps gradually to be able to attain those big goals. It’s all about setting realistic small goals that are stepping stones to where you want to be!
Now that we’ve gotten all that out of the way…let’s talk about this outfit for a second. I bought this look earlier this season to wear potentially to a holiday party, but it never got worn to any parties unfornuately. Be that as it may, I love this matching set because its super affordable and you can wear them as separates for a more casual look. Just because the holidays are over doesn’t mean you gotta dim your sparkle! Seriously though, matching sets are the best because you can wear them together for matching impact, or separate them and mix and match with other pieces in your wardrobe.
