Nate and I live in Los Angeles, which I’m sure you are aware is a huge metro area. While we love living here and all the benefits it comes with, living in a major city can also come with risk. With bigger cities comes more potential for crime and break-ins. I love the neighborhood we live in and I have always felt perfectly safe here. Unfortunately, even in our “nice” neighborhood of LA, we are not devoid of crime. Just last year, the apartment building across from us was broken into and a woman was held hostage…the entire street was blocked off as a crime scene for a whole day and it was pretty crazy. All that being said, it’s better to be safe than sorry, which is why we started looking into different ways to protect our home. After a little research, I ran across Blink, which is a pretty awesome new way to monitor and protect your home.
Real talk, we live in an apartment, and our apartment is in a building that does not have the most amazing security system. I honestly didn’t know how to safeguard our home any more than just using our deadbolt since the only other home security systems I had heard of were usually for actual houses. That’s where Blink comes in. You don’t need to have any sort of crazy installation of wires or have a technician come to your home to install this system. I did ours myself in less than 10 minutes. Honestly, I was pretty shocked at how easy the Blink camera was to install and get up and running.
Another great perk of Blink? It is so affordable! Many of these other home security and monitoring systems will charge you a monthly subscription. Seriously, who needs another bill these days…certainly not me! The Blink camera costs only $99 one time and that’s it! As far as affordability goes, you can’t beat it.
Installation of the system was a total breeze. You basically just pop the batteries in, plug the device in, sync it with your wifi, download the Blink App to your smartphone, and get the camera up and running in a spot that is advantageous to seeing the activity in your place and…voila!
This system will alert you if there is any motion in the room when it is turned on to the “armed” setting. Now I will never have anxiety about our apartment ever again while we are out traveling, because I will be able to see it in real time via the Blink app! If the camera detects any activity, I get a push notification to my device letting me know and giving me an HD video of the motion that was detected. The above is a lovely screen grab of the first time this system detected motion our place after I set it up and “armed it.” The camera is pretty wide angle, so as long as it is set up near my front door, I could see any activity going in or out of my apartment. Even better, if you have a furry friend, it helps you check in on their activity on the live video feed during the day while you’re away at work which is a bonus for all my pet owners out there.
