I’m just going to take time out from our regularly scheduled programming to just give you a little pep talk, alright?! Today, we are talking girl power. There’s been a lot of it going around lately, if you haven’t noticed. It would be an understatement to say that I’m kinda into it…nope, I’m MAJORLY into it. Bring on all the girl power!
Today, I was at the mall picking up some last minute items for my NYFW trip, when I walked past the store Justice. For those of you who may not know, Justice is the store that is basically the Limited Too for today’s pre-teen girls. As I walked by their store front, I couldn’t help but notice a t-shirt on one of the manequins that said, “Yes You Can, End of Story.” Maybe I should have stopped to buy one for myself, but I didn’t, so intent was I on my to-do list. However, this shirt did make me think a bit. Never when I was growing up shopping at Limited Too were there shirts like this with messages that are so empowering to young girls. It really made me think about how much times are changing for the better, and how girl power is becoming so much more of a reality than a distant dream. Wonder Woman was basically the smash hit of the summer, featuring none other than a female super hero, and with major events like the Women’s March on Washington, it seems that women everywhere are making a claim for their stake in the future and refusing to back down. Yes, we still have such a long way to go, but it was just so refreshing to see a message like this being promoted to young girls and it makes me so hopeful for the future!
So, I guess the whole point of this post is for me to say: Yes you can, end of story. Whatever it is that you want to do, get out there and do it! I personally have been told so many times in my life that my hopes and dreams are silly at best and at worst, hopeless pipe dreams. Yet here I am, on the eve of my first trip to New York for Fashion Week, an event I’ve always dreamed of attending but never thought possible until recently. Dreams can be possibilities, you just have to take them one step at a time, never forget that. Embrace the Girl Power that is so contagious right now, and get out there and do it! 🙂
