Self care….its a phrase that is a dime a dozen throughout social media these days, but what does it really mean? A lot of people have tons of misconceptions about self care, usually thinking that self care means being selfish, or doing extravagant things for yourself. Here’s the thing: everyday self care doesn’t have to be a production, and it certainly isn’t selfish. You can practice self care wherever you are, whenever, and with whatever funds you are working with. One amazing book I recently discovered for everyday self care is Make Yourself Cozy: A Guide for Practicing Self-Care by Katie Vaz. It seriously is the cutest and prettiest way to get inspiration for everyday self care. Why do I love this book? It really helps you practice self care in a way that is practical and perfect for real life. Self care doesn’t necessarily need to be a long drawn out process, and it doesn’t have to cost you any money. No matter where you are at in life, you can take care of yourself with everyday self care. Want to order this book for yourself or for a friend? You can pre-order a copy via Amazon by clicking on this link!
This page in the book says it so well: 10 minutes is really all you need to do something small for yourself, and it doesn’t have to be anything fancy. This is so true. You know its the little things in life that makes you happy, so its really the little things for everyday self care that can help you out each day to get what you need out of your day. Make Yourself Cozy really gives you the tools to retrain yourself to make regular, easy self care a part of your daily routine. What I love about this book is that it is an easy and beautifully illustrated guide on simple and quick ways that you can do everyday self care. I love flipping through the pages and how fun and just cozy they seem! It really helps you get your inspirational juices flowing.
I read somewhere the other day that anxiety is just conspiracy theories about yourself…seriously, nothing could be more true! If you suffer from anxiety like I do from time to time, you know it can be debilitating and really get in the way of achieving your personal goals, at least in my experience. One of the goals of this book is to help people like me who are constantly over-thinking everything with gentle journal prompts that tells you to “Be Your Own Friend” and helps you think about what is worrying you in a different way. This prompt really got me thinking because when it comes to our own problems, we are really blinded by our own baggage, insecurities, fears, etc, while a friend has an outside opinion that is free of those things.
The way I see this book is that its just a beautifully illustrated journal with thoughtful prompts that help you get in the mindset of everyday self care and to give you ideas on how you can realistically take a moment and spend some quality time with yourself. Here are some of my favorite everyday self care tips:
- Break up a monotonous week by eating lunch outside al fresco
- Hunt for something charming at a local thrift shop (shopping in general just makes me so happy even if I don’t buy anything)
- Think of your “me time” as a friend. Stick up for her when needed and hang out often.
I definitely picked up several more copies to give as gifts. With the holidays coming up and it always feeling like it is someone’s birthday, I love having these on hand to give to my girlfriends because we all need a little self care and me time. It would also be a great idea for a college students to start their school year off right. Self care was definitely something I did not do enough of in school and I felt it! You’ve gotta care for yourself so you can get those bomb grades!
Everyday self care is certainly a commitment, but it is so doable and easy to find inspiration of different ways to practice self care thanks to this book! Don’t miss it as it is available October 2nd!
