Every once in a while, a trend comes along that seems a little bit too over the top to pull off. And that’s coming from me, a person who is relatively fearless when it comes to trying out trends. I’ve been eyeing the fishnet worn under distressed denim for a minute now and contemplating how I would try it out. I’ve decided that the best way to ease into this trend if you’re down to try it is to get a fishnet that is skin color. A lot of the street style pictures I have seen of this trend use black or some bright color, and, while that may look fun, it could go the way of Pretty Woman on Sunset Boulevard if you’re not careful. The nude fishnet gives that fun layered look without being too over the top. Now, whether or not you choose to wear this with a midriff bearing top and low slung jeans is up to you, I just thought I would get a little daring.

Speaking of being daring, putting this look together made me come to a realization: as women, we either get dressed for other women or men. I’m not going to say that women do solely one or the other, but I think we have a tendency to choose male or female attention by what we wear. Often, I personally think that I get dressed to impress other women, and when I say for other women, I mostly mean for myself. Yes, of course sometimes I like to get dressed up really sexy, but I think this outfit is a great example of putting on something that made me feel fun and daring. For example, my fiance took one look at this top and declared that I looked like a lampshade…he just doesn’t know that this top is actually serving some serious Balmain vibes, am I right?! I actually love anticipating his incredulous reaction to some of the crazy things I wear. It kind of lets me know that I probably look so crazy (good) that my man just doesn’t get it, and you know what…I LOVE that. The point is, we as women don’t have to always get dressed to appeal to the opposite sex. You don’t even have to get dressed to impress the same sex. Wear whatever the hell makes you happy and the most confident: at the end of the day, that is all that matters!
