Happy Friday everyone!
You successfully made it to the weekend, but not just any weekend, because tomorrow is Cinco de Mayo! Ever since I moved to Los Angeles about ten years ago, I have really enjoyed celebrating Cinco de Mayo, we Angelenos seem to do it right every year. Margaritas are basically my favorite cocktail, so I thought in honor of this holiday, I’d share a fun and different cocktail recipe idea: Avocado Margatinis.
Before we get started, this one is for those who are 21+, so please remember to drink responsibly!
Margatini…? Huh? If that’s what you’re thinking right now, I totally get it. Basically, a margatini is exactly what it sounds like….a margarita, but served up like a martini. I like making this cocktail this way because I think the texture lends itself better to being served up rather than on the rocks. I also should mention, if you don’t love avocados, or you like really sweet, blended in a blender/ice machine margaritas, this one is probably not for you. With all that being said, let’s get down to this recipe, shall we?
Avocado Margatini Recipe:
Tequila of your choice (I went for a reposado because that’s how I roll)
A couple ripe avocados
Several limes (or Real Lime Juice if you want to be lazy)
Agave Nectar
Sea Salt
Ice
For this Cinco de Mayo special, you’re going to also need a shaker and a muddler. Also, make sure your avocados are ripe, but not too ripe. You need them to be in that perfect place so that you’re getting the full flavor but they’re just mushy enough to easily break up. Take a quarter of an avodado, and throw it in your shaker. Take your muddler, and go to town on that avocado. Really take out all your aggression from the past week. Perfect. Now, take a jigger and measure out 1.5 oz of your tequila, 1.5 oz of lime juice (either fresh squeezed or fresh squeezed out of your Real Lime bottle), 1 oz of agave nectar, .25 oz of water, and a dash of sea salt into your shaker with the avocado. Fill that shaker with ice, and shake it a lot harder than a polaroid picture. You really want to make sure that avocado is broken up. Find yourself the drinking vessel of your choice and strain your concoction. Extra points if you rim said vessel with salt. Pop a lime on the rim and…voila! You have a savory and sweet cocktail that is way more fun than avocado toast.
In case you were thinking this was a sponsored post in any way…its not! I simply love each and every one of these ingredients! I know this drink seems weird, but I hope you give it a try, I love it so much but…then again…I’ll eat/drink anything with avocados. Have a fun and safe Cinco de Mayo and remember to enjoy my lovely concoction responsibly!
