Amazon Prime Wardrobe has been around for a minute, but as per usual, I am late to the game on trying a trend or service. If you have yet to try Amazon Prime Wardrobe, I’ve got everything you need to know about this service offered by Amazon that let’s you try on clothing before you buy. As you all know, I am an AVID….FREQUENT….some might even say OBSESSIVE shopper of Amazon, so I had to give this a try and tell you my thoughts.
Amazon Prime Wardrobe: What is it?
Let’s get started with the basics here. Amazon Prime Wardrobe is not, as I originally thought, a subscription service. When it first came on the scene, I assumed that this was Amazon’s answer to companies like Trunk Club or Stitchfix, where you are given a stylist and they send you a set amount of pieces each month and you keep what you like and send back what you don’t. Amazon Prime Wardrobe is actually not a subscription service, but a Prime-only service where YOU choose what you want to try on at home. You can choose up to 8 items at a time, and once you receive your shipment, you have 7 days to try on your items. Whatever you like, you keep, and whatever you don’t like, you simply put back into the handy resealable box they shipped everything in and send it back. You are then charged for the items you chose to hold onto. Its pretty simple and convenient!
Just FYI, if you want to be styled by a stylist, Amazon also offers Amazon Personal Shopper, which is essentially the same as Prime Wardrobe, except you DO get a box monthly styled by a stylist, and it costs $4.99 a month, which is significantly cheaper than the styling fee you might pay at other similar companies like say Stitchfix or Trunk Club.
Amazon Prime Wardrobe: What Is Included?
Prime Wardrobe includes clothing, shoes, and accessories for Men, Women, and children, so if you are looking for items not only for yourself but others in your household, this is a great way to do it! The selection of items is where I sort of hit a speed bump in my expectations. I assumed that the insane inventory of clothing available at Amazon would be eligible to include in my Prime Wardrobe order, however, that is not the case. In fact, many of the more affordable brands that I like shopping on Amazon are not able to be added to a Prime wardrobe order. This to me has to be one of the biggest cons of the service as it is pretty limited in what you can order when you compare it to Amazon’s vast array of clothing offerings.
Despite the somewhat limited offerings, the brands that are on offer here are some of my favorites on Amazon. They include Amazon’s house brands such as Good Threads, Daily Ritual, and Find (my personal current fav in house Amazon brand!) as well as some big name brands like Ugg, Calvin Klein, Adidas, Theory, Levi’s, and more.
Let’s Start with the Cons…
I feel like its always best to lead with the negative and end on a positive, right? Here’s some of the aspects of Prime Wardrobe I do not love. As mentioned above, the selection of what you can order in Prime Wardrobe doesn’t include a lot of clothing items on Amazon. I noticed that sometimes I’d find something that was eligible for Prime Wardrobe, but then when I changed the size, it no longer was. This was super confusing and also frustrating if my size was the one that wasn’t eligible.
Here’s my least favorite thing about Prime Wardrobe: although this is a Prime service….your Prime Wardrobe does not arrive in 2 days. It takes about 5 days to receive your box. Many of these items are individually available to ship via Prime if you ordered them the traditional way, so by choosing Prime Wardrobe, you have to wait longer to receive your order. To me this is one of my least favorite things because you could alternatively order the things you want by just adding them to cart and purchasing. They will not only arrive to you quicker, but you can still try them on at home, as you could with Prime Wardrobe, and you can still send back what you don’t like or what doesn’t fit. The only difference is, if you do it this way you get charged up front and have to wait for a refund later. If you go the Prime Wardrobe route, you don’t pay anything up front but you WILL get charged the full amount of your box if you fail to ship your rejects back before your 7 days is up. In the case of just traditionally purchasing something on Amazon, you would have about a month to make a return. Whew, that was a lot, but you get what I’m saying, right?
And Now, the Positives…
Amazon Prime Wardrobe is super easy to use, and it is very convenient to receive everything in a handy, resealable box that you can make your returns in. Even if we were living in normal times and had the ability to go into the stores and try things on, I know many people just don’t have that kind of time, so this service brings it all to you in a nicely packed box, risk free. If you don’t like something, simply ship it back and you are never charged. I also love how the Prime Wardrobe is curated into different categories that allow you to shop for different occasions or styles.
At the end of the day, I will probably continue to just shop on Amazon the “normal” way…I am just too impatient to wait longer for something that I have been conditioned to expect in two days. At the end of the day, I only kept one item, these ADORABLE sandals from Find that are so so so affordable and go with everything. Seriously, add these to your cart right now in all the colors they come in and thank me later!
